Chirag Paswan's Letter Sparks Crisis Within Bihar's Ruling Coalition

A letter written by Chirag Paswan, the leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has created a stir in Bihar's politics. In the letter, Paswan raises serious questions about the state's law and order situation, causing considerable unease within the Janata Dal (United) or JDU.

Patna: Bihar's political landscape has once again heated up. A bly worded letter from Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has intensified the unrest within the NDA (National Democratic Alliance). Paswan's letter sharply criticizes the Nitish government's performance, questioning the state's law and order situation. This development has put the Janata Dal (United) or JDU on high alert, prompting them to prepare to escalate the issue to the BJP's top leadership.

Chirag's Letter Raises Several Questions

In his letter, Chirag Paswan highlighted issues such as the rising crime rate in Bihar, increasing atrocities against women, and the perceived inaction of the police. Notably, he didn't just send the letter to the Chief Minister; he also made it public through the media. This has irked JDU leaders, who see it as a political strategy within the NDA.

JDU Accuses Chirag of Speaking the Opposition's Language

JDU leaders have characterized Chirag's letter as echoing the language of the opposition parties. They argue that if Chirag were truly committed to the coalition's principles, he would have engaged directly with the Chief Minister instead of using the media to potentially damage the government's image. An unnamed senior JDU leader commented, "The state government has already taken action on the issues raised by Chirag Paswan. What is the purpose of publicly releasing this letter?"

BJP Expected to Rein in Chirag: JDU's Demand

The JDU is now preparing to raise this matter with the BJP's top leadership. The party fears that Chirag Paswan's pronouncements and actions could harm the NDA in the upcoming assembly elections. It's worth recalling that in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Chirag Paswan fielded candidates against the JDU in 143 seats.

He openly campaigned to oust Nitish Kumar from power, causing significant damage to the JDU. Although Chirag's party won only one seat, he did manage to dent the JDU's vote bank.

Chirag Targets Departments Directly Under Nitish Kumar

This time, Chirag's criticism is directed at departments under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's direct control, particularly the Home Department. This attack directly questions Nitish Kumar's reputation and leadership. The JDU believes this isn't merely administrative criticism but a potential political maneuver. The JDU fears that Chirag's continued internal opposition within the NDA will weaken trust within the coalition. This could hinder vote transfer, crucial for the success of any alliance in a state like Bihar.
