Government oil companies have announced an increase in the prices of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders and 5 kg mini cylinders, citing rising international oil prices and supply disruptions linked to tensions in West Asia.

The price of 5 kg mini LPG cylinders has been increased by ₹51. For 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders, the increase ranges between ₹195 and ₹218. Oil companies stated that the revision was necessary in view of international pricing trends and supply conditions.

Ongoing conflict in West Asia has affected global oil markets. Tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and disruptions in the international supply chain have led to an approximate 50 percent increase in crude oil prices, directly impacting commercial LPG prices in India.

Following the revision, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi and Mumbai is ₹2,078.50 and ₹2,031 respectively, reflecting an increase of ₹195.5 in both cities. In Kolkata and Chennai, prices have risen by ₹218 and ₹203 respectively, taking the new rates to ₹2,208 and ₹2,246. This increase follows a previous hike of ₹114.5 per cylinder implemented on March 1.

Prices of 5 kg mini LPG cylinders have risen by ₹51. These cylinders are commonly used by small businesses and household consumers, including restaurants, roadside eateries, and cafes.

The increase is expected to primarily affect the commercial sector, with hotels, restaurants, and industries facing higher operational costs. Domestic users have not seen a change in prices at present. In Delhi, the price of a 14.2 kg domestic cooking gas cylinder remains unchanged at ₹913. A ₹60 increase in domestic cylinder prices was implemented on March 7.

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) revise LPG prices on the first day of every month based on international benchmarks, crude oil prices, and currency exchange rates.

Despite the increase in LPG prices, petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged. In Delhi, petrol is priced at ₹94.72 per litre and diesel at ₹87.62 per litre. There has been no change since a ₹2 per litre reduction implemented in March last year.

The rise in oil prices is primarily attributed to disruptions in the global supply chain. Tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing conflict in West Asia have affected oil supply, leading to a sharp increase in international crude prices.

Higher commercial LPG prices are expected to increase operational costs for businesses such as restaurants, hotels, and small industries. Domestic kitchens remain unaffected for now, as there has been no fresh revision in household LPG cylinder prices.
