Several major rules came into effect in the country from December 1, 2025, including a new look for the Aadhaar card, a potential decision on the repo rate, changes in LPG cylinder prices, and new labor codes. These changes will directly impact the pockets and daily lives of common people.
New Rules December 2025: Several new rules have come into effect across the country from December 1, 2025. These changes will directly impact the finances of common people, making it essential to be aware of them. These include a major change in the design of the Aadhaar card, an important decision related to the repo rate, changes in LPG cylinder prices, and rules related to the labor code. December begins with new regulations, and their effects will be felt by everyone in the coming days.
Major Change in Aadhaar Card Format
UIDAI, the Unique Identification Authority of India, has announced a significant change related to the Aadhaar card. From December 1, 2025, the look of the Aadhaar card is being updated. Currently, Aadhaar cards display information such as name, address, mobile number, and Aadhaar number. However, UIDAI has implemented a major change to enhance security.
Now, your Aadhaar card will only display a QR code and a photograph. All other details will be securely embedded within the QR code, which will be scanned using the New Aadhaar App. Verification after scanning will be done through a Face Recognition system.
UIDAI's objective is to ensure that Aadhaar cannot be used fraudulently. QR code-based digital verification makes the information more secure. The effect of this will be a reduction in the possibility of misuse or duplication of an individual's identity.
The new-look Aadhaar card will also offer simplicity during verification, as digital face recognition will now be accepted as identification in many places.
RBI's December Meeting and Potential Repo Rate Cut
The RBI conducts a meeting of its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) every two months. During this meeting, the repo rate is reviewed, and a decision is made on whether to cut, hike, or maintain the rates.
The next RBI meeting in December will be held on December 3, 2025. Prior to this meeting, it is being estimated that there could be a 0.25% cut in the repo rate. However, this is just an estimate; the final decision will be made by the RBI.
A cut in the repo rate could directly impact interest rates on home loans, personal loans, and car loans. However, it's important to note that this is currently only an estimate, and the actual changes will be determined after the meeting.
Market experts are closely watching this meeting, and its outcome will be quite significant for the common consumer, as any change in the repo rate directly affects EMIs.
Changes in LPG Cylinder Prices
From December 1, 2025, gas agencies have changed the prices of LPG cylinders. The good news is that the prices of commercial LPG cylinders have been reduced. However, there has been no change in the prices of domestic LPG cylinders, and these prices will remain the same as before.
The new prices for 19 kg commercial cylinders are as follows:
- Delhi: Earlier Rs 1590.5, now Rs 1580.5.
- Kolkata: Earlier Rs 1694, now Rs 1684.
- Mumbai: Earlier Rs 1542, now Rs 1531.5.
- Chennai: Earlier Rs 1750, now Rs 1739.5.
Meanwhile, the prices for 14 kg domestic cylinders are as follows:
- Delhi: Rs 853.
- Kolkata: Rs 879.
- Mumbai: Rs 852.5.
- Chennai: Rs 868.5.
No changes have been made to the prices of these domestic cylinders.
Commercial gas cylinders are predominantly used in hotels, shops, and small businesses. Therefore, the reduction in their prices will provide some relief to small businesses. However, for domestic consumers, the unchanged prices mean they will continue to bear the same burden of previous expenses.
New Labor Codes Implemented
The new labor code has been implemented in the country. It comprises a total of four major codes:
● The Code on Wages 2019
● The Code on Social Security 2020
● The Occupational Safety Health and Working Condition Code 2020
● The Industrial Relation Code 2020
The objective of these new labor codes is to protect the interests of employees, simplify the wage structure, and ensure safe workplace rules.
Under these codes, several decisions have been made that will directly benefit employees. For example, changes have been made to the CTC structure, making it mandatory for basic salary to be at least 50% of the total CTC.
Rules related to PF and Gratuity have also been changed. Gratuity was previously given to those with long service, but according to the code, Gratuity is now to be paid after just one year. However, detailed government guidelines are awaited for the full implementation of this rule.
The Code on Wages explicitly states that basic pay should be 50% of the total salary. This rule is currently partially implemented. It is being used in the calculation of PF and Gratuity. However, it will be considered fully implemented when the government notifies its detailed framework.
