Delhi Driver in Audi Runs Over Laborers While Drunk, Arrested

A speeding Audi car ran over five laborers sleeping on a footpath in Vasant Vihar, Delhi. The accused driver was under the influence of alcohol. The police have arrested him from the spot.

Delhi Accident: A horrific road accident occurred in the Vasant Vihar area of Delhi on the night of July 9 at around 1:45 AM, in which a speeding Audi car ran over five people sleeping on the footpath. The incident took place in front of Shiva Camp, where the victims were sleeping on the footpath with their families.

Laborers Crushed While Sleeping

According to eyewitnesses, the white Audi suddenly came at high speed and ran over the sleeping people. All five people were seriously injured in the accident. Immediately after the incident, local people informed the police in a commotion and the injured were sent to the hospital.

Identification and Condition of the Victims

The injured in the accident have been identified as 40-year-old Ladhi, a resident of Rajasthan, his 8-year-old daughter Biml, Ladhi's husband Sabami alias Chirma, 45, Ram Chander, 45, and his wife Narayani, 35. All are daily wage laborers and had come to Delhi in search of work. Currently, all the injured are being treated in nearby hospitals and their condition is being continuously monitored.

Accused Driver Was Drunk

Police investigation revealed that the person driving the car at the time of the accident was under the influence of alcohol. The accused has been identified as 40-year-old Utsav Shekhar, a resident of the Dwarka area of Delhi.

Local People Did Not Let Him Escape

As soon as the car stopped after the accident, local people caught the accused on the spot and handed him over to the police. The police said that there was no possibility of the accused escaping from the scene as people had surrounded him and stopped him there.

Confirmation of Intoxication in Medical Examination

The medical examination made it clear that Utsav Shekhar had consumed alcohol. The police have registered a case against the accused under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (endangering the lives of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt), and 185 (driving under the influence of alcohol) of the Indian Penal Code.

Investigation into Other Occupants in the Car Also Underway

Currently, the police are also investigating whether any other person was present in the car at the time of the accident and whether this was a deliberate act of negligence. In addition, it is also being ascertained from which place the accused was coming from and what was the speed of his car at that time.
