A fatal accident occurred on the Rajgir–Bakhtiyarpur rail section near Bihar Sharif–Harnaut station after an elderly man was hit by a MEMU train and died on the spot. Following the incident, a large number of people gathered at the location.
According to eyewitnesses, the impact of the collision severely damaged the body of the elderly man. Railway police and local administration officials reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident.
Railway police cordoned off the area and initiated an investigation. The body has been taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination.
It is being reported that the MEMU train was travelling from Rajgir to Bakhtiyarpur at the time of the accident. It is not yet clear how the elderly man reached the railway track.
For some time, there was confusion around Harnaut station as train passengers and local residents gathered at the scene.
Police are trying to establish the identity of the deceased. Information has also been sent to nearby police stations and villages to trace family members.
Officials of Indian Railways said the matter is under investigation. An appeal has been made to exercise caution near railway tracks and avoid crossing them without authorisation.
Local residents said several accidents had occurred earlier on this rail section and demanded ber safety arrangements from the railway administration.
