During discussion on a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha, an exchange took place between two Members of Parliament from Bihar — Independent MP from Purnia Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav and Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Begusarai Giriraj Singh.
Pappu Yadav was addressing the House when Giriraj Singh interrupted him. In response, Pappu Yadav remarked that Giriraj Singh used to visit his house to eat “bhoonja” and challenged him to accept an electoral contest against him.
Pappu Yadav said that if Giriraj Singh had the courage, he should contest an election independently and demonstrate victory. He stated that several leaders win elections in the name of their political parties, but the real strength comes from public support. Following these remarks, noise and disruption were briefly witnessed in the House.
The exchange occurred while the House was debating the no-confidence motion. Pappu Yadav was speaking when Giriraj Singh intervened. Objecting to the interruption, Pappu Yadav responded sharply, and the two MPs engaged in a verbal exchange that continued for several minutes. Deputy Speaker Jagdambika Pal intervened and asked both members to maintain order and keep the discussion aligned with the subject under debate.

During the exchange, Pappu Yadav also said that when he had already been elected as a Member of Parliament five times, Giriraj Singh had not yet been born. The remark further heightened the atmosphere in the House.
Giriraj Singh asked Pappu Yadav where he had been during the government of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In response, Pappu Yadav said that he was part of the cabinet at the time and that the Federal Democratic Party was part of the government. He added that he has been active in parliamentary life continuously since 1990 and had the opportunity to work with several political leaders, including Mulayam Singh Yadav and Chandrashekhar.
As the exchange intensified, Deputy Speaker Jagdambika Pal again intervened and reminded both MPs that the House was discussing the no-confidence motion and that maintaining order was necessary. Following the intervention, Pappu Yadav continued his speech while focusing on the subject of the debate, and the atmosphere in the House gradually returned to normal.
Pappu Yadav, a seven-time Member of Parliament from Purnia, has been regarded in Bihar politics as a prominent and outspoken political figure. After not receiving a ticket from the Congress party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he contested the election from Purnia as an independent candidate and was elected, returning to Parliament. He regularly expresses his views on various political and social issues, which often receive media attention.
Giriraj Singh, the Member of Parliament from Begusarai, is a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014 from Nawada and was included in the cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019. He has also served as a minister in the Bihar government and as a Member of the Legislative Council.
