Funeral Arrangements Set for Fauja Singh, World's Oldest Marathon Runner

The funeral of Fauja Singh, the world's oldest marathon runner at 114 years old, will be held on July 20th at 12:00 PM at the cremation ground in his village. This information was provided by his son, Harvinder Singh Sukha.

Punjab: Following the passing of Fauja Singh, the world's oldest and most famous marathon runner, the date for his funeral has now been set. The funeral of 114-year-old Fauja Singh will take place on July 20, 2025, at 12 PM at the cremation ground in his ancestral village of Beas Pind. This information has been given by his son, Harvinder Singh Sukha.

According to his son Harvinder Singh, close relatives of Fauja Singh have arrived in India from Canada and England to attend the funeral. The funeral was delayed by a few days because the entire family wanted all close friends and loved ones to be present for this final farewell.

Passed Away in an Accident

On July 14th, while Fauja Singh was taking his daily walk near his village of Beas Pind on the Pathankot-Jalandhar National Highway around noon, a speeding car hit him forcefully. Fauja Singh died on the spot in this accident. Punjab Police have taken the driver of the speeding car into custody along with the vehicle, and legal proceedings are underway.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Jalandhar Rural district, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, personally visited Fauja Singh's home and met with his family. Assuring the family of all possible assistance, he said that the loss of an inspiration like Fauja Singh is a deep shock not only for Punjab but also for millions of Punjabis and sports enthusiasts around the world.

The administration stands with the family in this time of grief. Fauja Singh's passing has caused a wave of mourning in Punjab, as well as in the British, Canadian, and global Punjabi community.

Why the Delay in the Funeral? Son Explains the Reason

Fauja Singh's son, Harvinder Singh Sukha, told the media that the family wanted all of our close relatives and friends to be able to attend the funeral. Many relatives residing in Canada and England were coming for the final viewing, so it took some time. Now that everyone has arrived, the funeral will be held on July 20th.

Fauja Singh's achievements in his life are an example for today's youth as well. He started running marathons at the age of 90 and gained worldwide recognition after completing the London Marathon at the age of 100. He holds the title of the world's oldest marathon runner. He remained an example of fitness and spirit by running in several countries, including the UK, Canada, and India. Seeing Fauja Singh's spirit and health, he was also given the name "Turban Tornado."
