Application process for GATE 2026 has commenced. IIT Guwahati has activated the registration portal. New subjects have been added this time. Candidates should apply before the deadline.

GATE 2026: Big news for candidates aspiring to pursue higher education in Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, and other fields, or seeking jobs in PSUs. The online application process for GATE 2026 (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) has started. This time, some important changes have been made to the exam, which are important to know.

When and where to apply

IIT Guwahati has started the online application process for GATE 2026 from today. Candidates can register online by visiting gate2026.iitg.ac.in. All application processes will be done through GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System).

If you want to apply for GATE 2026, follow these steps:

  • First, go to gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
  • Click on the application portal link on the homepage.
  • Fill in the required personal and educational details.
  • Upload the necessary documents.
  • Pay the application fee online.
  • After submitting, download the form and keep it safe.

Note these dates

  • Application start: August 28, 2025
  • Last date to apply without late fee: September 26, 2025
  • Last date to apply with late fee: October 9, 2025
  • Exam dates: February 7, 8, 14 and 15, 2026
  • Result announcement: March 19, 2026

Eligibility criteria

Only those candidates are eligible for GATE 2026 who are either in the third year of graduation or have completed a Government Recognized degree in Engineering, Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, Technology, or Architecture.

What changes have been made in the exam this time

Some new changes have been made in GATE 2026 this year. The Energy Science (XE-I) paper has been added to the Engineering Science (XE) category. After this, there will now be a total of 30 papers in GATE 2026.

The new papers that have been added in the last five years include Biomedical Engineering (BM), Environmental Science & Engineering (ES), Humanities & Social Sciences (XH), Geomatics Engineering (GE), Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DA) and Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (NM).
