Google has introduced an update to its AI-powered search experience, AI Mode, enabling users to connect select third-party apps and services to complete everyday tasks directly within Search instead of only retrieving information.
According to Google, the new feature allows users to perform activities such as planning parties, shopping for groceries and creating music playlists from within AI Mode. The capability is initially being rolled out in the United States with integrations for Canva, Instacart and YouTube Music.
Google announced the update through a blog post. The company said users can now link their preferred supported apps with AI Mode and use their features when needed. The integrations are intended to reduce the need for users to switch repeatedly between different applications.
Within AI Mode, users can describe their requirements in natural language, and the system can assist with the next steps based on the connected services available.

Google provided an example of a user planning a barbecue party. The user can ask AI Mode to prepare a grocery list for the event. If the user's Instacart account is connected to AI Mode, the items included in the generated list can be added directly to the shopping cart. The user can then complete the order through the Instacart website or app in a few steps.
Google said final order confirmation and payment must still be completed by the user.
The update also includes Canva integration. According to Google, users can describe their design requirements to AI Mode, which can recommend relevant Canva templates or design options. The feature can be used for creating party invitations, social media posts, event materials or other visual designs.
AI Mode also integrates with YouTube Music. Users can request playlists based on their preferences, mood or a specific occasion. For example, users can ask for playlists for a road trip, workout or party. AI Mode can assist in creating the playlist, which can then be saved to YouTube Music.
Google confirmed that third-party app integrations in AI Mode are currently being rolled out to users in the United States. The company said it is working with additional partners to expand the feature with more apps and services in the future, potentially adding options across shopping, travel, food delivery, productivity and other categories.
