Haryana Government Orders CBI Investigation into Manisha's Death After Protests

The death of Manisha, a play school teacher from Dhani Lakshman, has escalated into a major issue. Considering the seriousness of this sensitive case, the Haryana government has decided to hand over the investigation to the CBI.

Bhiwani: The mysterious death of 18-year-old Manisha, a teacher from Bhiwani district in Haryana, has shaken the entire state. After an eight-day stalemate, Manisha was finally cremated on Thursday. Her younger brother lit the funeral pyre. Hundreds of villagers and relatives were present during this time, chanting slogans of "Manisha Amar Rahe" (Manisha, may you live forever). Accepting the demand of the deceased's family and villagers, the state government has decided to hand over the investigation of this case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Manisha's Post-mortem Conducted for the Third Time

Manisha's body was first recovered on August 13, after which post-mortem examinations were conducted twice, once in Bhiwani and again at Rohtak PGI. Both reports revealed that the death was due to poisoning and did not confirm rape. However, the family and villagers remained dissatisfied with these reports. At their request, a third post-mortem was conducted at Delhi AIIMS on Wednesday. The body was handed over to the family around 5:30 PM. After this, the body was taken directly to Bhiwani, and the final rites were performed at the crematorium on Thursday morning.

The family and villagers had clearly refused to perform the final rites without a CBI investigation and a post-mortem at AIIMS. The situation became so tense that the villagers blocked all the roads to Dhani Lakshman village by cutting down trees. On Wednesday morning, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on social media platform X that the investigation of the case would be handed over to the CBI. After this, the Panchayat and villagers agreed and announced the end of the protest.

Dispute Stretched for Eight Days

  • Manisha went to school on August 11 but did not return home.
  • Her body was found in the fields on August 13.
  • The family alleged rape and murder.
  • Police confirmed death by poisoning in the initial investigation.
  • In protest, the villagers refused to take the body and perform the final rites.
  • After three post-mortem examinations, demonstrations, and pressure on the government, a CBI investigation was decided upon.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, Haryana State Women's Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia reached Bhiwani on Wednesday to meet the family. However, due to the roads being blocked by the villagers, she could not go to Dhani Lakshman village. She had to stay at the rest house in nearby Dhigawa Mandi and talk to the Panchayat members. Renu Bhatia said that she is constantly in touch with the family over the phone and stands with them in the fight for justice.
