Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud completed a hat-trick by taking three wickets off consecutive deliveries in the ongoing one-off Test match against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi. He has become Bangladesh's first fast bowler to achieve a hat-trick in Test cricket. Following Afghanistan's first innings dismissal for 240 runs, Bangladesh secured a 106-run lead.

Hasan Mahmud's Hat-Trick in the 83rd Over

On the third day of the match, 26-year-old Hasan Mahmud dismissed Asmat Alam, Qais Ahmed, and Zia-ur-Rahman on three consecutive deliveries during Afghanistan's first innings. He claimed five wickets for 55 runs in 21 overs in that innings.

Mahmud's hat-trick was completed in the 83rd over of Afghanistan's first innings. He bowled Asmat Alam on the first ball. Asmat returned to the pavilion after scoring just one run.

Next, Qais Ahmed got an outside edge, and wicketkeeper Litton Das took the catch. With this wicket, Mahmud was just one wicket away from a hat-trick.

On the subsequent delivery, the ball struck Zia-ur-Rahman's pad, leading to an LBW appeal from the Bangladeshi players. The on-field umpire initially gave him not out, but Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto opted for the Decision Review System (DRS).

Ball-tracking showed the ball hitting the stumps. The third umpire then overturned the on-field umpire's decision, declaring Zia-ur-Rahman out. Thus, Mahmud completed his hat-trick by taking three wickets on three consecutive deliveries.

Third Bangladeshi Bowler to Achieve a Test Hat-Trick

Hasan Mahmud has become the third Bangladeshi bowler to claim a hat-trick in Test cricket. The two players who achieved this feat before him were both spin bowlers.

Bangladesh's first Test hat-trick was taken by Alok Kapali against Pakistan in Peshawar in 2003. Subsequently, Sohag Gazi achieved this honor by taking three wickets on three consecutive deliveries against New Zealand in Chattogram in 2013.
