Himachal Pradesh Deputy CM and MLA Receive Death Threats on Social Media
Himachal: A serious incident has unfolded in Una district, Himachal Pradesh, where Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and Gagret MLA Rakesh Kaalia received death threats via social media. The threats, delivered via Facebook, prompted the filing of a police report at the Haroli police station in Una.
Complaint Filed by Youth Congress President
The complaint was filed by Shubham Joshi, the Haroli Youth Congress president. Joshi, a resident of Ward No. 1, village and post office Laldi, Tehsil Haroli, informed the police about a Facebook post on June 6, 2025, from the account 'Sharp Shooter Nabahi Wala' containing threatening language.
Offensive Comments on Facebook
According to Joshi, the post featured a picture of Amrish Rana, claiming his arrest by Gagret police. A comment by one Dilip Kumar on the post read, "The public is demanding a sword again." 'Sharp Shooter Nabahi Wala' responded, "Then this time the sword will be used on a politician." Another individual, Randip Thakur, then asked, "For what crime…?", to which the reply was, "The Deputy CM and Rakesh Kaalia will know."
Police Take Cognizance, FIR Registered
Taking these comments seriously, the Haroli police registered a case against an unknown individual under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The complainant provided the police with the URL and screenshots of the Facebook post. The police are now investigating, using this digital evidence to identify and apprehend the culprit.
Connection to Previous Incidents
Police reports indicate that Amrish Rana had previously posted a video on social media against the Deputy Chief Minister. Shortly after, he was arrested by Gagret police in a separate case. The Facebook post containing the implicit threats against the Deputy Chief Minister and the MLA is linked to this incident.
Ongoing Police Action
ASP Sanjeev Bhatia stated that swift action is being taken. He confirmed that a case has been registered based on the complaint, and the investigation is underway to apprehend the accused soon. He also emphasized that such offensive and threatening activities on social media will not be tolerated.
