Honey Irani Breaks Silence on Divorce From Javed Akhtar, Denies Shabana Azmi's Involvement

Honey Irani On Divorce With Javed Akhtar: In the glamorous world of Bollywood, relationships form and become complicated with equal speed. However, some relationships stand as examples over time, whether together or apart. One such relationship was that of Honey Irani and Javed Akhtar. Decades later, Honey Irani has given a candid and detailed statement about their divorce, clarifying that the rift between her and Javed Akhtar was never caused by Shabana Azmi, as long-standing rumors suggested.

A Beautiful Love Story Once Was

Honey Irani and Javed Akhtar's love story began on the set of the film "Seeta Aur Geeta" in 1972. Honey was a rising actress, while Javed was a struggling writer. During a lighthearted game, when Honey chose a card as Javed instructed and he won, he jokingly said, "You're lucky for me... I think I should marry you."

This joke slowly turned into reality. They dated for about seven to eight months before getting married. This relationship produced two children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar, who are now successful names in the industry.

What Was the Real Reason for the Divorce?

Thirteen years after their marriage, in 1985, Javed and Honey divorced. Javed Akhtar later married the renowned actress Shabana Azmi, leading to the assumption that she was the reason for the divorce. However, in an interview with Filmfare, Honey Irani has completely dismissed this notion.

“What happened between us was never because of Shabana. I was angry, of course, but I never made a drama out of it. I accepted the situation and composed myself,” Honey clearly stated.

Depth and Understanding in Relationships

Honey Irani further stated that she faced significant emotional challenges after separating from Javed Akhtar, but she never let it affect her children's future. She said, “Perhaps he wanted something different from me, something I didn't have. But even today, we respect each other. I know Javed would never do anything to harm my children. That trust was my strength during that period.”

This statement exemplifies how the end of a relationship can be handled with dignity and understanding, especially when children are involved.

After the divorce, Honey Irani established herself not only as a mother but also as a b and independent writer. She wrote screenplays for blockbuster films like "Karan Arjun," "Koi Mil Gaya," and "Krrish," paving a new path for female screenwriters in Bollywood.
