The southwest monsoon has regained momentum across India, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting severe weather conditions in several parts of northern, eastern and central India over the next 24 hours. For July 4, the IMD has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and b winds across multiple states, with wind speeds expected to reach up to 90 kmph in some areas.
According to the IMD, the monsoon system has strengthened due to a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and an active cyclonic circulation over western India. As a result, widespread rainfall is likely to continue across several states in northern, central and eastern India over the coming days.
The IMD has issued warnings for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and b winds in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra and Kerala. Lightning is also likely in some areas, and people have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure in open places.
Delhi and adjoining areas are expected to witness heavy rain and thundershowers on July 4. The IMD has forecast b winds with speeds of 60 to 70 kmph during this period. Rainfall is expected to bring down temperatures, although waterlogging and traffic disruptions are also likely.
