The India Meteorological Department has issued alerts for rain and snowfall across large parts of north India from January 31, 2026, with changing weather conditions expected to persist over the coming days.
According to the department, two consecutive western disturbances will affect northwest India and the western Himalayan region between January 31 and February 3, bringing light to moderate rainfall over the plains and moderate to heavy rain and snowfall over the Himalayan areas. Light to moderate and isolated rainfall is also expected over adjoining plains of northwest and central India.
A third western disturbance is forecast to become active between February 5 and February 7, which may again lead to rainfall over northwest India.
In Delhi, cloudy conditions are expected to prevail over the next three days. Thunderstorms, rain and b winds are likely during the evening and night of Friday, January 31. A drop in minimum temperatures may increase cold conditions in the capital.

Several districts of Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness fog on January 31. Rain is expected to begin in some districts from February 1 and may continue for two to three days.
In Uttarakhand, a change in weather is expected from January 31. Light to moderate rain has been forecast for Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Chamoli districts. Snowfall is likely in mountainous regions at elevations of 3,000 metres and above.
Himachal Pradesh has been placed under a yellow alert for rain and snowfall from February 1 to February 3. Jammu and Kashmir is under an alert for rain and snowfall until February 2, with heavy snowfall possible in higher Himalayan regions.
Rajasthan is expected to receive rainfall in several areas from January 31 to February 3, with light to moderate rain likely in districts including Ajmer, Kota and Jaipur. Parts of Bihar may receive light rainfall on February 3.
In Punjab and Haryana, light rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected from Friday night, with hail possible at isolated locations. Fog and cold conditions are also likely in these states.
