The IMD has issued a rain and thunderstorm alert for 22 states on October 9. Winds could reach 70 kmph, with heavy rainfall forecast in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and other regions.

As the monsoon withdrawal progresses, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to continue across several parts of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain and thunderstorm alert for 22 states for October 9. Some areas may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while wind speeds could reach 70 kmph. Caution has also been advised in hilly regions due to the risk of landslides and in coastal areas due to high waves.

According to the weather department, adverse weather conditions are possible on October 9 in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim and Assam.

Several states may experience rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Gusty winds could reach speeds of up to 70 kmph in some locations. People have been advised to avoid open areas during adverse weather conditions and follow instructions issued by local authorities.

Rainfall and thunderstorms are continuing in several regions despite the withdrawal of the monsoon, owing to the presence of multiple active weather systems.

According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation is present in the lower tropospheric levels over Uttarakhand and adjoining Himachal Pradesh. Another cyclonic circulation is active over southern Jharkhand and neighbouring areas. A trough extends from the Gulf of Mannar to north interior Karnataka.

Additional troughs over western and southern Uttar Pradesh and the southern Bay of Bengal are also influencing weather conditions. The combined effects of these systems are contributing to rainfall and b winds across several parts of the country.
