India's E-commerce Giants Remove Turkish Brands Amidst Geopolitical Tensions

New Delhi: Amidst ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, the impact of Turkey and Azerbaijan's support for Pakistan is now visible in India's e-commerce sector. Leading Indian online fashion platforms Myntra and Ajio have stopped selling products from major Turkish fashion brands. Simultaneously, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has called for a nationwide boycott of Turkish and Azerbaijani goods.

Turkish Products Removed from Myntra and Ajio

Popular Turkish brands in India, such as Trendyol, Koton, LC Waikiki, and Mavi, previously favored for women's western wear, have been completely removed from Myntra and Ajio. The companies have either marked these brands as 'out of stock' or removed them entirely from their platforms.

Reliance Retail, which operates Ajio, has also closed its offices in Turkey. The company stated that it is reviewing all its international products, keeping in mind the sentiments of Indian consumers.

CAIT Takes Action Against Turkey and Azerbaijan

CAIT has proposed severing all trade relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan. The organization claims that while India has always supported these nations, their actions have caused disappointment. CAIT has demanded a boycott across all sectors, including import-export, tourism, film shootings, and brand promotion.

CAIT will soon submit a memorandum to the government demanding a review of trade relations with both countries.

Boycott Campaign Intensifies on Social Media

Public anger is evident on social media, with hashtags like #BoycottTurkey and #BoycottAzerbaijan trending. Users are urging a boycott of products from these countries and advocating support for domestic brands.

Turkish Brands Still Available on Amazon India

While Myntra and Ajio have removed Turkish brands, some Turkish brands and products remain available on other platforms like Amazon India. Consumers are advised to exercise caution while shopping and prioritize "Make in India" products.

The escalating tension between India and Pakistan, coupled with Turkey and Azerbaijan's stance in favor of Pakistan, is significantly impacting India's business and consumer markets. While Myntra and Ajio have demonstrated support for national sentiment by removing Turkish brands, trade organizations have also adopted a b stance, intensifying the boycott of Turkish and Azerbaijani goods.

Experts believe such events highlight the direct impact of global politics on local markets and business decisions.
