New Initiative for Youth in the Country

On November 19, 2025, the country's first 'Gen Z Post Office' was launched at IIT Delhi. The India Post Department has revamped the old post office to suit the needs of youth and students. Now, this post office offers traditional services along with facilities like Wi-Fi, QR-based parcel booking, and student-friendly Speed Post discounts. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Director, Deans, faculty members, and student body of IIT Delhi.

This initiative is part of India Post Department's larger plan, under which 46 university campus post offices across the country will be transformed to be student-centric and digitally aligned by December 15, 2025. According to Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, the objective is to make post offices vibrant and attractive for youth.

Students Played a Key Role

IIT Delhi students actively contributed to the creative design and artwork of this post office. The Fine Arts Society added artistic elements to the walls and interiors of the post office. India Post Department ensured student participation in this initiative by making them brand ambassadors, design co-creators, and collaborators in social media outreach.

Additionally, a student franchise model has been launched at IIT Delhi, providing students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in post office operations and promote entrepreneurship. This model will also benefit students by allowing them to learn management and business skills.

Features Designed for Gen Z

The country's first 'Gen Z Post Office' includes special facilities for students and young customers. Wi-Fi and smart service touchpoints, along with QR code-based parcel booking, make it modern. Special discounts are available for students on Speed Post, making their posting experience easier and more accessible.

'Gen Z', or Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, are active in technology and digital media. The design and services of this post office have been created keeping in mind the habits and needs of this young generation.

The objective of this initiative is not limited to IIT Delhi alone. India Post Department plans to establish similar student-centric post offices in university and college campuses across the country. This will make postal services more accessible for youth and enhance the post office's image as modern and digital.
