India Leads After Rain-Disrupted Third Day of Leeds Test

The third day of the ongoing first Test match between India and England was washed out due to rain. The weather disrupted play, ending the day prematurely. India reached 90/2 in their second innings, establishing a lead of 96 runs.

Sports News: The third day of the first Test match in the five-match series between India and England at Leeds was affected by rain. While the day's play wasn't completely abandoned, rain reduced the number of overs bowled, resulting in an early finish. India, at 90/2 in their second innings, now holds a crucial 96-run lead.

At the close of play, KL Rahul was unbeaten on 47 and Shubman Gill on 6. England's first innings ended at 465, giving India a slender initial lead of 6 runs. The match remains evenly poised, but India seems to be gradually gaining a ber grip on the contest.

India's Second Innings

India's second innings began poorly. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for just 4 in the first over, caught by wicketkeeper Jamie Smith off Brydon Carse. Sai Sudharsan and the experienced KL Rahul then attempted to steady the innings, adding a 66-run partnership for the second wicket.

Sai Sudharsan scored 30 off 48 balls before Ben Stokes broke the partnership, caught by Jack Crowley. Shubman Gill joined Rahul, who played an excellent innings, scoring 47 runs off 75 balls, including seven fours. Gill, playing cautiously, scored 6 from 10 balls with one four.

England's First Innings: Brook Out on 99

Earlier, England resumed their first innings at 209/3. Ollie Pope completed a fine century, but Prasidh Krishna provided India with a significant breakthrough, dismissing him for 106 early on the third day. A 51-run partnership followed between Harry Brook and captain Ben Stokes before Mohammed Siraj dismissed Stokes, giving England their fifth dismissal. This catch marked wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant's 150th Test catch, making him the third Indian wicketkeeper to achieve this milestone.

Brook and Jamie Smith then added a quick 73-run stand, putting England in a b position. However, Prasidh Krishna once again struck, dismissing Smith and breaking the partnership. Brook was approaching a magnificent century but was dismissed for 99, a frustrating one-run short of his milestone, again by Prasidh Krishna.

England's lower order offered some resistance, with Woakes scoring 38, Carse 22, and Tongue 11. Eventually, England were bowled out for 465. Bumrah was the most successful bowler for India, taking 5 wickets – his 14th five-wicket haul in Tests. Prasidh Krishna took 3 and Mohammed Siraj 2.
