Indian stock, commodity markets closed on January 26 for Republic Day

Indian financial markets remained shut on January 26, 2026, due to the Republic Day holiday, with no trading on NSE, BSE, or MCX across equity, derivatives, SLB, and commodity segments. Trading is scheduled to resume at normal hours on January 27.

Indian stock exchanges remained closed on Monday, January 26, 2026, on account of Republic Day. There was no trading activity across equity, equity derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), or commodity segments.

Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) observed a full-day holiday. No buy or sell orders were accepted across any segment during the session.

As per the 2026 trading calendar issued by NSE and BSE, January 26 is among the 16 scheduled market holidays for the year, excluding weekly offs.

The commodity market also remained shut. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) observed a complete trading holiday on January 26, 2026. No trading took place in either the morning or evening sessions across commodities, including gold, silver, crude oil, or other listed contracts.

Following the Republic Day holiday, trading across NSE, BSE, and MCX is scheduled to resume at normal hours on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

In the previous trading session held on Friday, ahead of the holiday, Indian equity markets closed lower. Selling pressure was observed across several stocks, including Adani Group companies, Eternal, and IndiGo, which weighed on broader market performance.

At the close of trade, the BSE Sensex declined by 769.67 points, or 0.94 percent, to end at 81,537.7. The NSE Nifty50 fell by 241.25 points, or 0.95 percent, to settle at 25,048.65.
