Indian Stock Market Faces Pressure From Crude Oil Prices and US Iran Tensions

Indian equities remained under pressure on Tuesday as crude oil prices rose and US Iran military tensions escalated. Gift Nifty was around 24,034, while investors will track Asian markets, US bond yields, oil prices and geopolitical developments.

Indian benchmark indices remained under pressure throughout Tuesday’s trading session, although the Nifty 50 managed to close above the key 24,000 level. Rising crude oil prices, escalating military tensions between the United States and Iran, and weak global cues were among the factors weighing on the market.

The Gift Nifty, which is used as an indicator for the early trading session, was seen trading around 24,034, about 56 points below the previous close of Nifty Futures. This indicated the possibility of a weak opening for Indian equities. However, early indicators do not determine the direction of the market for the entire session.

The escalating military confrontation between the United States and Iran has increased risks across global financial markets. Reports of new US military strikes and retaliatory action by Iran have prompted investors to move towards safe-haven assets.

The energy market could face the most significant impact from the tensions. A prolonged conflict in the Middle East could increase the risk of disruptions to oil supplies. Higher crude oil prices could add to global inflationary pressures and limit the scope for major central banks to cut interest rates.

Global market cues also remained cautious. Japan’s Topix was down around 2%, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 declined about 1.4%. Technology stocks in the United States also remained under pressure, with the Nasdaq 100 recording weak performance in recent trading sessions.

Along with higher oil prices, rising US bond yields and a ber dollar have also added to investor concerns. Elevated bond yields and higher oil prices could affect the monetary policy of the US Federal Reserve, with implications for emerging markets, including India.

Reliance Industries’ FMCG arm, Reliance Consumer Products, has entered the Indian ice cream market with the launch of the Bombay Creamery brand. The company’s expansion into a new FMCG segment is part of its latest business development.
