Delhi: Indigo flight number 6E 5314, en route from Kochi to Delhi, was forced to make an emergency landing at Nagpur airport following a bomb threat. The information received on Monday morning prompted the immediate diversion of the aircraft. The plane landed safely at Nagpur's Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, after which all necessary security procedures were implemented.
Over 170 passengers on board
The flight carried approximately 170 passengers. Upon receiving an email alert about a potential bomb on board, airline officials immediately alerted the pilot. Prioritizing safety, the pilot diverted the aircraft to Nagpur airport. After landing, passengers were safely evacuated.
Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad takes charge
Immediately after the plane landed, a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team arrived on the scene. A thorough search of the entire flight was conducted. Passenger luggage was unloaded and passed through separate scanning machines, and the cabin was meticulously searched. No explosive material has been found so far, but the investigation is ongoing.
CISF and local police on high alert
Following the incident, security at Nagpur airport has been tightened. The CISF, local police, and airport authorities are jointly investigating the potential threat. Every angle is being explored to ascertain whether the threat was a hoax or part of a larger conspiracy.
Indigo Airlines' statement
Indigo Airlines issued a statement saying, "The flight was diverted to Nagpur due to security concerns. The aircraft landed safely and all passengers are safe. We are in contact with local agencies and a full investigation into the matter is underway."
Passengers experience tension
According to passengers on board, the pilot initially informed them that the flight was being diverted to Nagpur due to technical reasons. However, the landing and inspection process proceeded peacefully, and no passengers experienced any difficulties. Airport administration provided refreshments to the passengers and made arrangements for their onward journey to Delhi.
