A youth was killed in Jaipur’s Kanota area following an alleged dispute over salary payments. According to the family, three youths assaulted Rohit Saini and his companion during a drinking session and later ran a car over them.
The incident took place near Kanota Puliya at around 3 am on Monday. Police said that after the incident, the car in which the accused had arrived collided with a truck parked ahead. The accused then allegedly abandoned the car and fled. Police have seized the vehicle and launched an investigation.
Kanota police received information from passersby that two youths riding a motorcycle had met with an accident and were lying injured by the roadside near the flyover. A police team reached the spot after receiving the information.
The police found both youths injured and covered in blood. They were taken by ambulance to Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Hospital (SMS Hospital).
According to police, doctors declared 26-year-old Rohit Saini dead during treatment. His companion, Sunil Saini, was admitted to the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Rohit Saini was a resident of Dulha Singh Ki Dhani in the Chomu area.
According to police, Rohit had been working as a driver for property businessman Naresh Agrawal in the Kanota-Bassi area for around a year.
The property businessman had provided accommodation in Kanota for his employees. Rohit also lived there with 4-5 other employees.
According to his family, Rohit would visit his home to meet his wife and two sons whenever he received leave.
After the incident, police found a car that had crashed into a truck near the scene. During an examination of the vehicle, police found that its ownership was linked to property businessman Naresh Agrawal.
During questioning of Agrawal, police learned that the car was with Surendra Yadav at the time of the incident. Police subsequently began investigating the role of Surendra and other suspects in the case.
Rohit’s brother Ashok alleged that his brother was killed following a dispute over salary payments.
According to Ashok, Rohit worked as a driver for property businessman Naresh Agrawal and had been asking for his pending salary.
According to the family, Rohit, Surendra, Deepa, Rajesh and Sunil met near a Balaji brick kiln at around 8 pm on Sunday. During the meeting, Surendra gave Rohit Rs 20,000. The group then consumed alcohol there.
During the drinking session, Rohit allegedly asked Surendra to pay the remaining outstanding amount. The family alleged that Surendra replied that only that amount had been sent by Naresh for the time being.
A dispute then broke out between Rohit and Surendra over the issue. The family alleged that Surendra also threatened Rohit during the dispute.
According to the family, after the dispute, Rohit and Sunil went to the flat to sleep. At around 1 am, Surendra allegedly called Rohit on his mobile phone.
The family alleged that after abusing Rohit over the phone, Surendra asked him to come near a petrol pump located close to Kanota Puliya.
At around 2:45 am, Rohit and Sunil reached the location on a motorcycle. According to the family, Surendra, Deepa and Rajesh were already there.
According to Rohit’s brother Ashok, after Rohit and Sunil arrived, the three accused allegedly abused them.
The family alleged that the accused threatened Rohit and told him that they would not listen to anything he said against Naresh. The three then allegedly began assaulting Rohit and Sunil.
During the assault, Surendra allegedly took a stick from the car and struck Rohit on the head. Rohit fell to the ground after sustaining the head injury.
The accused then allegedly ran the car over Rohit and Sunil. Both were left injured on the road following the incident.
After allegedly running the car over Rohit and Sunil, the accused tried to leave the spot. During this, their car collided with a truck parked ahead.
Following the collision, the accused allegedly abandoned the car and fled. A person who runs a tea stall nearby later informed the police about the incident.
Police reached the spot, sent both injured youths to hospital and took the damaged car into custody.
After learning about Rohit’s death, his family reached Kanota police station. The family staged a protest outside the station demanding the early arrest of the accused.
Former MLA Ramlal Sharma also reached the spot during the protest. The family demanded that police arrest the accused at the earliest and take strict action in the case.
Kanota police have registered a murder case and started an investigation. Police have collected evidence related to the scene and seized the car.
Police are investigating the sequence of events, the roles of the accused, the condition of the car and facts related to the dispute between the deceased and the accused.
Police are also expected to question people present around the scene, including the tea stall operator and other potential eyewitnesses, to establish the sequence of events.
According to the family’s allegations, the incident began with a dispute over pending salary payments. The dispute allegedly escalated during the drinking session and was followed by the alleged assault and the incident involving the car.
However, the allegations concerning the salary dispute, the roles of the accused and the complete sequence of events leading to the death will be established through the police investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
Police have so far registered the case and are searching for the accused who are allegedly absconding. Sunil Saini remains under treatment at the hospital. The post-mortem report and other evidence emerging during the investigation will also be relevant to further action in the case.
