Jaipur Metro: Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Jaipur Metro Phase-2. This project is now awaiting approval from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the Metro Rail Policy 2017. Construction of Jaipur Metro Phase-2 will commence as soon as the central government grants its approval.
The state government had already announced the commencement of Phase-2 work in the 2025-26 budget. This metro project is considered a significant step towards strengthening and expanding Jaipur's public transportation system.
42.80 Kilometer Corridor, 36 Modern Stations
Under the Phase-2 project, the new Jaipur Metro route is proposed from Todi Mod to Prahladpura. This route will be approximately 42.80 kilometers long, with a total of 36 stations. Of these, 34 stations will be elevated, while 2 will be underground. One of the underground stations will be located beneath the proposed airport terminal, providing a direct and fast connection for international and domestic passengers.
This route will connect key residential, commercial, educational, and industrial areas of the city, such as VKI, Sitapura, Vidhyadhar Nagar, Tonk Road, etc. Furthermore, major public places like Sawai Man Singh Hospital, SMS Stadium, Collectorate, and the proposed interstate bus terminals will also be integrated into the metro network.
Final Approval Sought from the Central Government
According to the Chief Minister's office, this DPR has been sent to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final approval under the Metro Rail Policy 2017. Construction work will begin as soon as approval is received from the Centre. Notably, the state government announced this project in the 2025-26 budget, and it is now being implemented.
The total cost of this ambitious project is estimated at ₹12,260 crore. Reputable international financial institutions such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) have agreed to provide loans for the project. The project's operation and implementation will be handled by the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation (RMRC), a joint venture established with a 50:50 partnership between the central and state governments.
Transforming the City's Pace, Boosting Investment
This Jaipur Metro Phase-2 route will not only transform the city's traffic landscape but will also open new avenues for urban development, commercial activities, and investment. The metro's convenience will alleviate traffic congestion and significantly reduce carbon emissions. Connecting the airport, stadium, hospital, and educational institutions will also make daily commutes more convenient and efficient.
