Education: The Jharkhand government has made a significant announcement for requirement-based teachers working on contract in the state's constituent colleges and polytechnic institutions. Higher and Technical Education Minister Sudivya Kumar announced that these teachers will receive weightage in regular appointments. Additionally, they may also be granted age relaxation. This decision is an initiative by the state government to honor these teachers and recognize their years of service contribution.
Provision of Weightage for Contract Teachers
Minister Sudivya Kumar stated in the Assembly that contract teachers will be given weightage in the regular appointment process. The aim is to ensure that those who have been contributing to the education sector for years receive due priority. The weightage will primarily be utilized in the selection and interview process, so that their experience and service can be directly reflected in the appointment procedure.
Proposal for Age Relaxation
Consideration is also being given to providing age relaxation for contract teachers to include them in regular appointments. The Minister mentioned that for this purpose, regulations and provisions implemented in other states will be studied. This will determine how much relaxation can be offered to teachers in Jharkhand as well. He added that this will provide opportunities to experienced teachers and their services in the education sector can be evaluated.
Questions Raised in the Assembly
Regarding this matter, Leader of the Congress Legislative Party, Pradeep Yadav, raised a point of concern in the Assembly. He stated that requirement-based teachers have been providing their services for years, but their regular appointments are still pending. He also questioned how some teachers were appointed on contract without being fully qualified. In response, the Minister clarified that the selection process was based on the reservation roster and interviews.
Pradeep Yadav also raised the question of how these teachers would be regularized if they lack quality. In his reply, the Minister stated that the state government cannot overlook the service and experience of these teachers. He further added that the experience of other states will be studied for providing weightage and age relaxation in regular appointments, to ensure a fair and just decision.
Decision to Learn from the Experience of Other States
The Minister informed that the Jharkhand government is studying the policies and regulations of other states in this matter. This will help in understanding how contract teachers can be given weightage and age relaxation in regular appointments. He stated that this will ensure that the appointment process is transparent, equitable, and based on experience.
