Jio 5G Subscribers Cross 268 Million as Akash Ambani Unveils 2030 5G and LEO Satellite Internet Plans

5G subscnnect its entire customer base to 5G by 2030. He also outlined plans for a Low Earth Orbit satellite network, expansion of Jio AirFiber, and greater integration of Artificial Intelligence across digital services.

Reliance Industries’ 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM) featured several announcements by Jio Chairman Akash Ambani regarding the company’s digital strategy and future plans. He stated that Jio’s 5G subscriber base has crossed 268 million and that the company aims to connect its entire customer base to the 5G network by 2030.

Speaking at Reliance Industries’ 49th Annual General Meeting, Akash Ambani outlined Jio’s digital progress and future strategy. He said Jio’s 5G subscriber base has exceeded 268 million, making it the world’s largest 5G network operated by a single telecom operator outside China.

Akash Ambani said the company added 77 million new 5G subscribers over the past year. Jio’s target is to connect its entire subscriber base to 5G services by 2030 to provide high-speed digital connectivity across the country.

During his address, Akash Ambani also announced developments related to Jio’s satellite internet initiative. He said the company is working on developing its own Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network for India to extend internet services to remote and difficult-to-reach regions.

He said, “Jio connected India to the internet on the ground. Now the time has come to connect India from the sky.”

The initiative is considered particularly significant for areas where deploying conventional fiber or mobile networks remains challenging. The objective is to expand access to digital services in rural and remote regions through satellite internet connectivity.

According to the company, Jio is leasing space capacity from global satellite companies to launch satellite internet services more quickly. This is expected to support faster service expansion during the initial phase while the company simultaneously develops its own indigenous satellite infrastructure.

Jio is also establishing a ground station network in India, which will play an important role in operating satellite communication services. The company believes this step will contribute to strengthening India’s self-reliance in internet and digital communication infrastructure.

Akash Ambani also highlighted the progress of Jio AirFiber. He said the service has reached 13 million homes and is adding approximately 60,000 new connections every day.

Jio aims to provide high-speed home broadband through AirFiber in areas where laying fiber networks is difficult or expensive. The company’s other major objective is to extend reliable broadband internet connectivity to all parts of the country.

Jio identified Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a key component of its future strategy. Akash Ambani said the company is integrating AI technology into its digital platforms and services to provide customers with smarter, more personalized, and seamless experiences.

The company believes AI-powered services will play an important role in enhancing digital entertainment, communications, smart home solutions, and business services.

Jio’s new strategy extends beyond 5G expansion. The company is focusing on building a comprehensive digital ecosystem through fiber broadband, wireless connectivity, Artificial Intelligence, and satellite internet technologies.

With 268 million 5G subscribers, a rapidly expanding AirFiber network, and a proposed LEO satellite system, Jio is preparing to further expand digital connectivity across India.

If the company implements its plans within the proposed timelines, the initiative could play an important role in extending high-speed internet access to remote regions and supporting digital inclusion.
