West Bengal: Lawyer Manojit Mishra, accused in the Kolkata gang-rape case, is now barred from both studying and practicing law. The West Bengal Bar Council has revoked his law license and has also sent notification to the Central Bar Council. The college administration has also expelled the accused. The police investigation is proceeding rapidly, and four people have been arrested so far.
Major Decision by the Bar Council
The West Bengal Bar Council has taken strict action against lawyer Manojit Mishra, the main accused in the Kolkata gang-rape case. The Council has revoked Mishra's membership as a lawyer and has decided to remove his name from its records. This means that Manojit Mishra will no longer be able to practice law in any court in West Bengal.
Action Taken Within Seven Days of Complaint
Following this serious crime, as soon as the Council received the complaint, it immediately initiated the process and revoked the accused's law license in just seven days. This action was taken after the alleged gang-rape of a law college student in the Kasba area of Kolkata came to light.
Previous Complaints Filed
According to information, several complaints were already registered against Manojit Mishra. Despite this, he was actively practicing law in the Alipore Court. The overlooking of complaints against him is now under scrutiny, but the Bar Council, considering the seriousness of the current case, took immediate action.
Expelled from College as Well
South Kolkata Law College, where the victim was studying, has also taken a strict stance in this matter. The college administration has expelled Manojit Mishra from his temporary academic position. Moreover, both student accused involved in the case have also been expelled from the college.
Political Affiliations of the Accused Also Revealed
According to media reports, Manojit Mishra was associated with the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). It is also being alleged that his activities were ignored for a long time due to this political affiliation. However, both the Bar Council and the college administration have acted on judicial and ethical grounds, irrespective of political considerations.
SIT Formed for Strict Investigation
The Kolkata Police has taken this matter seriously. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, which is investigating this case. The intelligence department is also being consulted in this matter so that all aspects can be thoroughly investigated. Police officials say that no culprit will be spared.
Four Arrested So Far, Investigation Ongoing
Four people have been arrested so far in this case. Manojit Mishra is among the arrested accused. Investigations into the identities and backgrounds of the other accused are also underway. The police say that evidence has been collected from the crime scene, and digital footprints are also being examined.
