Kota Rural Police seized 49 kg of silver from a car during a checkpoint operation in the Kanwas police station area. The silver is estimated to be valued at Rs 1.40 crore. As no purchase bills or valid documents were produced, the silver was seized and the Goods and Services Tax Department and the Income Tax Department were informed.
The action was carried out under the ongoing “Operation View” launched by Kota Rural Police as part of intensified enforcement against illegal activities. A checkpoint was set up in the Kanwas police station jurisdiction on Tuesday, during which a suspicious car was stopped and searched.
During the search, police recovered a large quantity of silver from the vehicle. On weighing, the silver was found to be approximately 49 kg. The market value of the recovered silver was estimated at around Rs 1.40 crore.
Kota Rural Superintendent of Police Sujit Shankar said the two occupants of the car were asked to produce valid documents and purchase bills related to the silver, but they failed to do so. The silver was subsequently seized.

During questioning, the two men stated that they are residents of Garoth in Madhya Pradesh and claimed to be engaged in the gold and silver trade. However, in the absence of any bills or tax-related documents, the silver was treated as suspicious and taken into police custody.
The police have not arrested the two men at this stage, but they are being questioned in detail to ascertain the source of the silver and its intended destination.
According to police, the car from which the silver was recovered is registered in Indore district, Madhya Pradesh, bearing registration number MP09WN6066. Given the seriousness of the case, the Income Tax Department and the GST Department have been informed. The departments will examine documents related to the purchase, sale, tax payment, and transactions involving the silver.
Further legal action will be taken if tax evasion or illegal transactions are detected during the investigation. Police said the investigation is ongoing to determine whether the seized silver is linked to any illegal activity, and the next course of action will be decided after the probe is completed.
