Kupwara: Security Forces Arrest 3 Terrorist Associates, Recover Arms Ahead of Independence Day

Security forces in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, arrested 3 terrorist associates ahead of August 15. Weapons, cartridges, and posters recovered; security agencies maintain strict surveillance.

Jammu-Kashmir: Vigilance of security agencies has been increased in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Independence Day. Meanwhile, security forces have achieved a major success. Three terrorist associates have been arrested in the Wajhama Handwara area of Kupwara district. This action is considered important to weaken the network of terrorism in the region.

Identification of Arrested Accused

The three individuals arrested have been identified as Mohammad Iqbal Pandit, son of Sharifdin Pandit, resident of Bonpora Langet, Sajjad Ahmad Shah, son of Bashir Ahmad Shah, resident of Chakparine, and Ashfaq Ahmad Malik, son of Shabbir Ahmad Malik, resident of Karalgund. According to officials, all of them were working to provide assistance to terrorists at the local level.

Weapons and Objectionable Material Recovered

During the arrest, security forces recovered a pistol, two pistol cartridges, 20 cartridges of AK-47 rifle, and 20 posters from their possession. It is believed that these posters were to be used to spread terrorist propaganda and incite people. The recovered weapons make it clear that they had direct contact with the terrorists.

Increased Vigilance Before Independence Day

Every year, security arrangements are tightened in Jammu and Kashmir before August 15. This year too, security agencies have intensified search operations in border areas and terrorist-affected areas. This arrest is being considered a part of the same vigilance. Officials say that such operations help in thwarting any conspiracy around Independence Day.

Infiltration Attempt Foiled in Uri

Earlier on Wednesday, the army foiled an infiltration attempt from Pakistan near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector. During this incident, which took place in the Churunda area of Baramulla district in North Kashmir, there was also firing, in which one Indian Army soldier was martyred.

Body of Pakistani Intruder Handed Over

In another incident, officials said that the BSF had shot down a Pakistani intruder in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district. This person was moving towards India by crossing the border while ignoring several warnings. He died during treatment at AIIMS Jammu two days after the incident. Later, his body was handed over to Pakistani Rangers.

Strategy of Security Agencies

Security agencies are continuously taking action based on inputs. Along with preventing infiltration on the border, eliminating terrorists and their network inside the valley is a priority. After questioning the arrested facilitators, more clues are expected to be found, which will lead to reaching larger networks.
