Bihar Politics: Lalu Prasad Yadav, founder of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and former Chief Minister of Bihar, filed his nomination for the party's national president post on Monday. The process was completed at the RJD's central office located on Veerchand Patel Path, Patna. He submitted his nomination papers to the National Election Officer, Dr. Ramchandra Purve, and the Assistant National Election Officer, Chittaranjan Gagan.
Family and Senior Leaders Present
During the nomination process, Lalu Prasad Yadav was accompanied by his wife and former Chief Minister of Bihar, Rabri Devi; Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav; and Rajya Sabha MP and daughter, Misa Bharti. Senior party leaders Mangni Lal Mandal, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, and other party workers were also present.
Unopposed Election Expected
Sources indicate that Lalu Prasad Yadav's unopposed election as national president is almost certain. According to the party constitution, if no other candidate files a nomination, Lalu's election will be a mere formality. Currently, no other leader has claimed the post.
Organizational Session 2025-28 Process in Final Stage
The process of electing the national president under the RJD's organizational session 2025-28 is now in its final stage. Dates for nomination, scrutiny, withdrawal of nominations, and announcement have been fixed for this election process. Following Monday's nominations, the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on Tuesday from 10 am to 12 pm.
Withdrawal of Nominations and Announcement of Candidates
The final deadline for withdrawal of nominations is set for Tuesday from 1 pm to 3 pm. Following this, the names of the remaining candidates will be officially announced by 4 pm. If Lalu Prasad Yadav remains the sole candidate, he will be declared elected unopposed.
National President's Election to be Held at Party Office
The RJD national president's election will be held at the party's camp office, located within the party's state office complex. The entire election process is being overseen by National Election Officer Dr. Ramchandra Purve and Assistant Election Officer Chittaranjan Gagan.
