Lucknow: Chaos broke out at the railway hospital in Alambagh, Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow, on Monday morning due to a fire. Around 5 AM, smoke and flames suddenly began to emanate from the server room on the ground floor. The smoke spread to various parts of the hospital, causing difficulty breathing for patients. However, the hospital's nursing staff and doctors, demonstrating presence of mind, safely evacuated all patients, thereby averting a major disaster.

Chaos as Smoke Spreads Through Hospital

According to hospital administration, flames suddenly erupted from the server room early Monday morning. Electrical wires and equipment present there began to burn, leading to thick smoke. Within minutes, smoke filled the hospital corridors and wards. Panic ensued among patients and staff.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the fire alarm sounded, and all staff members became active. Doctors and nurses present at the scene safely shifted over 12 patients admitted to the CCU (Critical Care Unit) to a secure ward using stretchers and wheelchairs. The condition of all patients is currently reported as stable.

Fire Extinguished in an Hour Due to Fire Brigade's Promptness

Upon receiving information about the incident, the fire department team immediately reached the spot. With the help of three fire tenders, the fire was completely brought under control after an effort of approximately one hour. Fire officials stated that the cause of the fire appears to be a short circuit.

All electronic equipment and computer systems kept in the server room were completely burnt to ashes by the fire. Currently, the hospital's electricity supply has been temporarily restored using generators. Officials reported that no patient or staff member sustained serious injury.

Administration Orders Inquiry

Considering this incident serious, the Railway Hospital administration has ordered an inquiry into the event. A technical team will investigate how the short circuit occurred and how quickly the fire alarm system activated.

The Chief Medical Superintendent praised the staff's promptness, stating that “all employees collectively managed the situation and ensured no patient lost their life.” Meanwhile, the administration has instructed that all fire safety equipment in the hospital be immediately inspected and serviced.
