Maharashtra Politics: Income Tax Notices Intensify Political Activity

The Income Tax Department has issued notices to Shrikant Shinde, son of Maharashtra's Deputy CM, and Minister Sanjay Shirsat. This has led to questions from the opposition against the Mahayuti government and has intensified political activity.

Maharashtra: Political activity has once again intensified in Maharashtra. Shrikant Shinde, the son of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and a Member of Parliament, along with Minister Sanjay Shirsat from the Shinde faction, have received notices from the Income Tax Department. This notice comes at a time when the Mahayuti government in the state is under fire from the opposition.

Questions Raised Over Sanjay Shirsat's Income Increase

The Income Tax Department has sought details from Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat regarding the sources of the sudden increase in his income. Sanjay Shirsat, who is an MLA from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and is considered an influential leader in the Shinde faction, has been asked for detailed information about his financial situation by the department.

Shrikant Shinde Also Receives Notice, Details Not Yet Clear

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde's son and MP, Shrikant Shinde, has also been issued a notice. However, detailed information about this notice has not yet been made public. The opposition has called this a serious issue and has raised questions about the government's transparency.

Opposition's Allegation: This is Not Just a Routine Investigation

The opposition, particularly Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), is giving this issue a political color. They say that this is not just a tax-related matter but points towards the misuse of power and potential corruption. The opposition has also alleged that there has been an unusual increase in the income of leaders of the Shinde faction, which is being attempted to be concealed.

Shinde Faction's Response: We Will Cooperate Fully with the Investigation

The faction led by Eknath Shinde has stated that they will cooperate with the investigation with full transparency. They said that this is a routine procedure of the Income Tax Department and there is no need to panic. Leaders supporting Shinde claimed that the opposition is using this as a political weapon.

In 2022, Eknath Shinde rebelled from the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray and formed a new political equation. He formed the Mahayuti government in alliance with the BJP and the NCP faction of Ajit Pawar. Since then, the opposition has continuously questioned his leadership. This new investigation has further increased the pressure on his faction.
