BSP Chief Mayawati Appeals for National Unity Following Pahalgam Terror Attack
Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has appealed to all political parties to unite and stand with the government, urging them to refrain from actions that could be construed as opportunistic politicking.
Mayawati's Appeal: National Unity in the Face of Crisis
Mayawati stated that in times of crisis, all political parties should stand united with the government. She criticized certain parties for engaging in poster campaigns and issuing statements aimed at gaining political advantage from the tragedy, asserting that such actions are detrimental to national interests. She emphasized the need to avoid petty politics and collectively address the challenges facing the nation.
Mayawati wrote on social media, “Following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, all parties should stand united with the government in every step. Instead of exploiting this incident for political gains, which is spreading misinformation and is not in the national interest.”
Criticism of Congress and Samajwadi Party
Mayawati specifically cautioned the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP), warning against any actions that could be interpreted as disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. She urged both parties to refrain from making statements that could be deemed offensive to Ambedkar.
Mayawati further stated, “The SP and Congress should take special note. If Ambedkar is disrespected in this matter, the BSP may take to the streets in protest.”
Political Aftermath of the Attack
The Pahalgam terrorist attack sparked intense political debate across the country. Various parties demanded that the government apprehend the perpetrators and take b action. Congress released a poster featuring Prime Minister Modi with the words 'Head Missing' (Sirk Gayab), although the poster was later removed.
