Following US Attack on Iran, Prime Minister Modi Speaks with Iranian President. Both Leaders Discuss Regional Peace, De-escalation, and Diplomatic Solutions.
PM Modi: Following the US attack on Iran, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi over the phone on Sunday. This conversation took place amidst heightened tensions in West Asia following US missile strikes on three major Iranian nuclear facilities.
Prime Minister Modi shared details of the conversation via the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He stated that both leaders discussed the situation extensively and expressed deep concern over recent developments.
Prime Minister Modi Emphasizes Peace and Diplomacy
PM Modi stated that pursuing dialogue and diplomacy is the best option for peace, stability, and security in the region. He urged immediate de-escalation and appealed for restraint from all parties. Modi reiterated India's consistent support for regional stability and global peace.
According to him, “We expressed deep concern over the situation. I reiterated the need for a solution through dialogue and diplomacy. Maintaining regional peace and stability should be everyone's priority.”
Rising Tensions in West Asia
Tensions have been escalating between Iran and Israel for several weeks, marked by missile and drone attacks from both sides. The US attack on three Iranian nuclear facilities early Sunday morning further intensified the situation, with the US openly supporting Israel.
Two days prior, US President Donald Trump hinted at supporting Israel in a potential war against Iran. This was followed just two days later by the direct US attack on Iran.
Iran's Sharp Response
Following the US attack, Iran condemned it as a violation of international law and diplomatic processes. The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement asserting that the US attack occurred at a time when the possibility of a diplomatic solution remained.
The Ministry stated, “By supporting a genocidal and lawless regime like Israel, the US has betrayed diplomacy. This attack marks the beginning of a dangerous war against Iran.” Iran affirmed its right to self-defense and its readiness to respond to US aggression. Iran also accused the US of destabilizing West Asia.
