The political atmosphere is heating up regarding the 2026 elections for the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (BMC). The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, has released its second list of candidates for the BMC election.
BMC Election 2026: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has accelerated its election strategy for the Mumbai Municipal Corporation election. Under the leadership of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, the party has released a second list of 27 candidates for the BMC election. The announcement was made in Mumbai on December 29th. The release of this list just one day before the deadline for filing nominations is likely to give a decisive turn to the party's election preparations. The total number of candidates declared by the NCP so far has reached 64.
The release of this list just before the deadline for filing nominations has strengthened the NCP's election preparations. Through this list, the party has highlighted its organizational empowerment and strategy. The party leadership believes that a b foothold can be established at the local level through these candidates.
Different Strategy from the BJP-Shiv Sena Alliance
With the release of this second list, the NCP has made it clear that it will contest the BMC election separately, despite being an ally in the Mahayuti alliance led by the BJP. The party had previously released a first list of 37 candidates. Adding another 27 candidates demonstrates the party's attempt to showcase its electoral strength and broader strategy.
The BJP and the Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, have formed an alliance for the BMC election. In this political scenario, the NCP's decision to contest the election independently reflects the party's strength and electoral self-reliance.

Key Candidates in the Second List
The second list includes several important and locally influential candidates. These include:
- Ward No. 3: Manish Dubey
- Ward No. 40: Vilas Dagdu Ghule
- Ward No. 48: Cyril Peter D’Souza
- Ward No. 57: Ajay Datta Vichare
The party believes that the local recognition and organizational capabilities of these candidates will strengthen the election campaign. Recently, Mumbai BJP President Amit Satam denied any alliance with the NCP. He stated that Nawab Malik is in charge of the NCP's election management in the BMC election. Nawab Malik has been accused of money laundering and connections with associates of Dawood Ibrahim. In this context, the NCP's decision to contest the election independently is considered even more significant.
