As per data from the Speedtest Global Index 2025, Pakistan ranks 100th in mobile internet and 145th in fixed broadband, while India holds the 25th and 98th positions respectively. The fastest internet speed is recorded in the capital Delhi, whereas Pakistan's Lahore city has registered limited speeds. Current State of Internet Speed in Pakistan
In Pakistan, the average mobile internet speed recorded is 24.32Mbps for download and 8.64Mbps for upload. For fixed broadband, the download speed is 16.28Mbps and upload speed is 16.33Mbps. Among cities, Lahore leads in mobile internet with a download speed of 28.58Mbps and an upload speed of 7.70Mbps. However, in fixed broadband, Lahore ranks 182nd, with download speeds of 16.73Mbps and upload speeds of 16.51Mbps.
Pakistan's slow internet speed affects digital services, online streaming, and business operations. According to experts, there is a need for infrastructure improvement and network upgrading in the country.
Strength of Internet Speed in India
India ranks 25th in mobile internet with an average download speed of 131.77Mbps and an upload speed of 11.18Mbps. For fixed broadband, the average download speed recorded is 59.07Mbps and upload speed is 57.16Mbps. In the capital Delhi, mobile download speeds reached 155.93Mbps, and fixed broadband speeds were observed at 91.73Mbps.
India's fast internet speed is enabling better performance in digital business, online education, and e-commerce. The expansion of 5G networks is also playing a significant role in this direction.
Speedtest data clearly indicates that Pakistan lags behind India in internet speed. India is in a better position in both mobile and fixed broadband, which strengthens the Digital India initiative. Pakistan also needs to invest in improving network infrastructure and high-speed internet services.
