Fuel Prices Remain Unchanged on May 18 Following Recent Rs 3 Per Litre Increase

Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged across the country on May 18 after the recent increase in fuel rates announced by the central government. Last week, the government raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre, marking the first major increase in retail fuel prices in nearly four years.

The central government had implemented the increase nationwide from Friday, May 15, amid concerns over rising geopolitical tensions between Iran and the United States. Petrol and diesel prices were both increased by Rs 3 per litre for retail consumers.

According to the latest rates issued by state-run oil marketing companies, fuel prices in major cities were unchanged from the previous day.

In Delhi, petrol is priced at Rs 97.77 per litre and diesel at Rs 90.67 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol costs Rs 106.68 per litre and diesel Rs 93.14 per litre. Kolkata recorded petrol prices at Rs 108.70 per litre and diesel at Rs 95.13 per litre.

In Bengaluru, petrol is priced at Rs 106.21 per litre and diesel at Rs 94.10 per litre. Chennai recorded petrol prices at Rs 103.67 per litre and diesel at Rs 95.25 per litre.

In Lucknow, petrol costs Rs 97.55 per litre and diesel Rs 90.82 per litre. Patna recorded petrol prices at Rs 108.55 per litre and diesel at Rs 94.63 per litre.

In Raipur, petrol is priced at Rs 103.56 per litre and diesel at Rs 96.55 per litre, while Ranchi recorded petrol prices at Rs 100.84 per litre and diesel at Rs 95.76 per litre.

Fuel prices vary across states due to differences in local taxes, value-added tax and transportation costs.

The recent increase in fuel prices comes amid rising crude oil prices in the international market. Volatility in global crude oil prices and pressure on supply chains have continued to impact the energy market. India, which imports a significant portion of its oil requirements, remains directly affected by global price movements.

According to experts, increases in petrol and diesel prices have implications beyond the fuel sector. Higher diesel prices can raise transportation and logistics costs, potentially affecting prices of essential goods.
