PM Modi Appreciates Trump's Statement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on his social media platform ‘X’, "We wholeheartedly appreciate President Trump's sentiments and his positive assessment of our relationship. We fully support him. India and the United States share an extremely positive, forward-looking, comprehensive, and global strategic partnership." What Did Trump Say?

Speaking to the media in the Oval Office, Trump said, "I will always be Modi's friend. He is a great Prime Minister. Although I don't like some of the things he is doing at the moment. But there is a special relationship between India and the United States. There is nothing to worry about. We have moments like these." Trump's statement reflects his commitment to improving bilateral relations with India.

A few days ago, Trump had shared an old picture on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’, in which PM Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping were seen together. Trump had written, "It seems we have lost India and Russia to China. May their future be long and prosperous!"

Following this, Trump expressed his disappointment that India was buying so much oil from Russia. He mentioned that the US had imposed a 50 percent tariff on India. Despite this, he affirmed his good relations with Modi and said that Prime Minister Modi is very special to him.

Tariff and Oil Purchase Dispute with Russia

Recently, a strain has been observed between India and the United States concerning trade and energy policy. The US imposed a 25 percent penalty on crude oil purchases from Russia and a 50 percent tariff on India. This led to tension in bilateral trade relations. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi participated in the SCO summit held in Tianjin, China, where he had a warm meeting with Putin and Xi Jinping. Following this move, the American media and some American leaders accused the Trump administration of damaging relations with India.

India stated in its official statement that its relationship with the United States is b and that this partnership is based on democratic values, global interests, and mutual trust. The spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs said that India and the US will continue to engage in trade, security, and other strategic areas.
