New Delhi: Several states in India are currently reeling under heavy rainfall and floods, severely impacting normal life. Roads, bridges, and houses have been damaged, millions are displaced, and many lives have been lost. In view of this grave situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon visit the flood-affected states to assess the ground reality. According to official sources, the Prime Minister's visit comes at a time when various state governments are seeking financial assistance from the center.
Flood Havoc in North India
Many parts of North India have been facing a severe crisis for the past several days due to continuous torrential rains. Floods and landslides have caused widespread destruction, particularly in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab. River water levels are flowing above the danger mark, and thousands of families in rural areas have been affected.
According to sources, Prime Minister Modi will visit selected districts in these states where the impact of the floods has been most severe. The objective of his visit will not only be to review the progress of relief and rescue operations but also to interact directly with the affected people to understand their problems.
Assistance Received from the Center So Far
Several teams from central agencies and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are already deployed in relief and rescue operations. Despite this, local administrations state that the scale of damage is so extensive that state governments are running short of resources. This is the reason why state governments have requested additional financial aid and special packages from the center.
Experts suggest that climate change has increased the intensity and unpredictability of the monsoon. Consequently, natural disasters like floods and landslides are proving to be far more destructive than before.
Situation in Punjab Extremely Serious
Punjab is among the most affected states by this flood. So far, 37 people have lost their lives, and over 3.55 lakh people have been impacted. Farmlands and grain storage areas have been completely submerged, dealing a significant blow to the agricultural sector. According to officials, crops spread over more than 1.75 lakh hectares have been destroyed.
On Thursday, the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited flood-affected areas in Amritsar. He informed that two special teams have been sent to Punjab by the central government to assess the flood damage and submit their report to the government.
