Kannauj district in Uttar Pradesh has been allocated a target of 5,700 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) for the financial year 2026-27. Eligible beneficiaries will receive financial assistance of ₹1.20 lakh for house construction, along with separate support for toilet construction and wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
The first instalment of housing assistance will be transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) after the eligibility and other required procedures are completed.
The district received a physical target of 5,700 houses in October for the financial year 2026-27. The target will be distributed across all eight development blocks of Kannauj district based on beneficiary eligibility.
In the financial year 2024-25, Kannauj had received a target of only 328 houses. Subsequent allocations differed, resulting in extended waiting periods for several families seeking assistance to build permanent homes.
Following the latest allocation, the rural development department has initiated the process to implement the scheme. Beneficiaries will be selected according to the prescribed eligibility criteria.

Under PMAY-G, eligible beneficiaries are entitled to financial assistance of ₹1.20 lakh for constructing a permanent house. The amount will be transferred directly to their bank accounts.
According to officials, the first instalment will also be disbursed through DBT once the beneficiary selection process and other necessary formalities have been completed.
The scheme also provides for linking beneficiaries with other government programmes to facilitate access to basic amenities alongside housing assistance.
Beneficiaries under PMAY-G will receive separate financial assistance of ₹12,000 for toilet construction under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
In addition, the scheme provides for 90 days of unskilled wage employment through MGNREGA during house construction. The provision is intended to help eligible families meet labour-related costs associated with building their homes.
Ram Autar Singh, project director of the District Rural Development Agency, said the district had received the housing target from the state government.
He said the first instalment would be transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts after the selection of eligible families and completion of the necessary procedures.
The allocation will be implemented following the completion of eligibility verification and documentation requirements. House construction under the scheme will proceed for beneficiaries who meet the prescribed conditions.
