Punjab Amends Land Pooling Policy: Small Farmers to Benefit with Commercial Booths and Annual Contracts

The Punjab Government has amended the Land Pooling Policy. Now, farmers with less than three Kanal of land will also receive a commercial booth. They will also receive an annual contract of ₹50,000 per acre until the land is developed.

Punjab: The Punjab government has made significant changes to the state's Land Pooling Policy. This decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, which will directly benefit small farmers. Under this policy, farmers will no longer be forced to give up their land, and they will be given a contract amount as compensation until the land is developed.

Commercial Booths for Those with Less Than Three Kanal of Land

Previously, only large landowners were receiving commercial benefits under the Land Pooling Policy. But now, farmers with less than three Kanal of land will also get a commercial booth of up to 25 square yards. Along with this, they will also be given a residential plot of up to 125 square yards. This change is based on the long-standing demand of the farmers.

Government to Give ₹50,000 Per Acre Annually as Contract

Until the farmer's land is developed, the government will give them ₹50,000 per acre annually as a contract. If development takes time, this contract will increase to ₹1 lakh next year and will also increase by 10 percent every year. Farmers can continue their farming with this amount.

Decisions Taken in the Cabinet Meeting

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian gave information about these amendments in a joint press conference. He said that this policy is being made on the basis of dialogue with the farmers and changes are being made as suggestions are received.

Attack on Opposition Parties

Chief Minister Mann accused the opposition of spreading misconceptions about this policy. He said that the issuance of the notification does not mean that farmers cannot sell their land. Farmers will be completely free to sell, mortgage, or take loans on their land. The state government will also build a government road to provide access to their land.

Transparency and Flexibility in Policy

Mann said that previous governments cheated people by building illegal colonies. But now, planned and transparent development will be ensured through land pooling. There are planned colonies in 48 thousand acres in Haryana while only 26 thousand acres have been done in Punjab. This policy will promote planned development in Punjab.
