The incident occurred on December 21, 2025, involving Vedika Sagar, a resident of the Geeta Nagar area of Raipur, and her acquaintance T. Sunil Rao alias Sheenu, aged 28. The two had been in a relationship for a long time and visited a beer bar at Azad Chowk on the afternoon of December 21, arriving at around 3 pm, where they ordered non-vegetarian food and alcohol.
CCTV footage showed both seated at a table when an argument broke out. During the dispute, Vedika Sagar picked up a liquor bottle in anger and placed it back on the table, following which the accused became agitated and the altercation escalated.
According to the police, the accused first slapped the woman on her chest and then struck her on the head three times with a liquor bottle. The assault caused serious injuries to her head and eye.
After the attack, the accused pulled her by the hair and threw her to the ground. He remained at the spot for a short time, hugged the severely injured woman, and then fled. Another man present at the bar at the time of the incident was also captured on CCTV footage.
The bar operator immediately informed the police, and the injured woman was admitted to hospital, where she remained under treatment for 23 days.
Vedika Sagar died during treatment on January 12, 2026. Following her death, her family approached Azad Chowk police station on Tuesday, demanding that murder charges be added against the accused.
Police said the accused had already been arrested and sent to jail after the incident. After the victim’s death, the police decided to add more serious sections to the case and proceed with further legal action.
Azad Chowk CSP Ishu Agrawal stated that the incident took place at the bar on December 21 and that the accused was arrested on the complaint of the injured woman’s family. After her death, the case sections will be enhanced, and further legal proceedings will continue. Police are conducting a detailed investigation based on CCTV footage and statements of those present at the scene at the time of the incident.
