A Rajasthan Roadways double-decker bus travelling from Jaipur to Haridwar caught fire suddenly on Friday on the Doon Highway near Dadri village in the Daurala area of Meerut. The driver and conductor evacuated all 26 passengers, including one child, before the vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire.
The driver stopped the bus immediately after noticing smoke coming from the engine compartment as the vehicle reached the stretch near Dadri village. The driver and conductor instructed all passengers to get off the bus without delay.
The bus was carrying 26 passengers, including eight women, 17 men and one child. All passengers safely exited the vehicle with their belongings before the fire spread through the entire bus. Within minutes, the flames engulfed the vehicle, which was completely gutted.
Following information about the incident, police and fire brigade teams reached the spot. Four fire engines from Meerut and three from Muzaffarnagar were deployed to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters brought the fire under control after prolonged efforts, but by then the bus had been completely destroyed, leaving only its frame.
The incident temporarily affected traffic on the highway. Police managed traffic at the scene and gradually cleared the congestion, restoring the movement of vehicles.
According to preliminary information, the fire originated in the engine section of the bus. The prompt action of the driver and conductor ensured that all passengers were evacuated safely and no casualties were reported. Local residents and passers-by also reached the spot and assisted in the relief efforts.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation. The bus driver has informed Rajasthan Roadways officials about the incident. Authorities said the actual cause of the fire will be determined after the technical inspection report is received.
