After assuming office, Kumar stated that his objective is to position HAL as an innovation-driven, AI-enabled, and globally competitive aerospace company. He said the focus would be on operational excellence, digital transformation, and employee-led innovation.

He also implemented a strategy of outsourcing major aircraft assembly to private sector partners to improve production efficiency and delivery timelines.
Under his initiatives, HAL has expanded into civil aviation manufacturing and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, creating additional revenue streams and strengthening its market presence.
