Rising gold prices in Lucknow are increasingly influencing market dynamics and consumer purchasing behaviour, with a visible shift in buying patterns across the city’s bullion trade.

Traders in the sarrafa market said gold prices have recorded a notable surge over the past few months. Ongoing fluctuations in international markets and domestic demand have contributed to the continued increase in prices. As a result, middle-class households are finding it difficult to purchase gold in larger quantities.

Jewellers reported that consumer preference has shifted toward lower-weight and budget-oriented designs. Earlier, demand was concentrated in 20–30 gram sets, whereas sales have now increased for lighter jewellery in the 8–12 gram range. Smaller daily-wear items such as chains, rings, earrings and lightweight mangalsutras are witnessing higher traction.

Several customers are opting to exchange old jewellery or have it melted and redesigned into new pieces, reducing the need for additional cash outlays. Exchange offers and discounts on making charges are also drawing consumer interest.

Traders stated that market activity is currently subdued, though they expect business volumes to pick up from April. The upcoming wedding season and occasions such as Akshaya Tritiya are expected to support higher gold purchases.

Some jewellers said consumers are increasingly viewing gold not only as jewellery but also as an investment asset. Amid rising prices, buyers are purchasing limited quantities from an investment perspective. However, inflation has had a direct impact on the retail market.

Shopkeepers in Lucknow’s leading bullion markets said footfall is lower compared with earlier levels, though inquiries and price checks have increased. Consumers are monitoring rates closely and waiting for favourable buying opportunities.

Overall, rising gold prices have altered purchasing trends in Lucknow, with increased demand for lightweight jewellery and exchange transactions in place of heavier ornaments. Traders expect business conditions to improve in the coming months.
