Several leaders of the Samajwadi Party have been placed under preventive house arrest by the administration in Varanasi. According to information available, a party delegation was scheduled to visit the Daalmandi area. In view of this, the administration imposed restrictions on any political activity without prior permission and strengthened security arrangements.
It is reported that on the instructions of Akhilesh Yadav, senior leaders and workers of the Samajwadi Party were to visit Daalmandi. The party stated that the delegation intended to meet local traders and residents to listen to their concerns.
Police personnel were deployed outside the residences of several Samajwadi Party leaders from the morning. Some leaders were not permitted to leave their homes. Party workers described the action as a violation of democratic rights and alleged that the administration was acting under political pressure.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the Daalmandi area. Barricading has been installed on main routes, and checks are being conducted on those entering and exiting the locality. The administration clarified that no assembly, procession, or political programme would be permitted without prior approval.
Police officials stated that maintaining law and order is the priority. They said precautionary measures were taken in view of the sensitivity of the area to prevent any untoward incident.
Samajwadi Party leaders said they intended to engage with the public in a peaceful manner. The party indicated that it would decide its further course of action if the restrictions continue.
Following these developments, the political atmosphere in Varanasi has intensified. A situation of confrontation has emerged between the administration and the opposition. The situation is currently reported to be under control, and attention remains on the administration’s next course of action.
