The Samajwadi Party has nominated Dhanraj Parmal Nathwani and party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh. Both candidates will file their nominations at 11 am on Wednesday in the presence of party president Akhilesh Yadav, while the name of the party’s third candidate has not yet been clarified.
The Samajwadi Party has announced Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav and Dhanraj Parmal Nathwani as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh. Both will file their nominations at around 11 am on Wednesday in the presence of party president Akhilesh Yadav.
Dhanraj Parmal Nathwani has been fielded as the SP’s second candidate. He is associated with the industry and corporate sector and is the son of sitting Rajya Sabha MP Parmal Nathwani. According to reports, Dhanraj Nathwani has been associated with Reliance Industries and has also played an important role in the Gujarat Cricket Association.
The SP has also nominated its senior leader and national general secretary Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav for the Rajya Sabha election. Ram Gopal Yadav has represented the party in the Upper House for a long time. His name is also listed among the party’s Rajya Sabha members on the SP’s official website.
Ram Gopal Yadav will file his nomination at 11 am on Wednesday. Akhilesh Yadav and other senior party leaders and legislators are expected to be present during the nomination. Although the nomination process began on Tuesday, no candidate had filed a nomination paper. Both the BJP and the SP had obtained several nomination forms.
A biennial election is scheduled for 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. With the election process underway, political parties have been finalising their candidates. The SP has announced the names of Ram Gopal Yadav and Dhanraj Nathwani, while discussions had continued over other possible candidates.
Reports emerging until Tuesday had mentioned different names for the SP’s third candidate. The party had purchased four nomination forms, intensifying speculation about additional candidates. Some reports had indicated that the SP was preparing to field a candidate for the third seat as well. However, no such names had been officially announced at that time.
Following Dhanraj Nathwani’s nomination, his experience in the business and social sectors has also come under discussion. He is the son of Parmal Nathwani. Parmal Nathwani is currently a Rajya Sabha MP and was elected in the June 2026 Rajya Sabha election from Jharkhand as a BJP-supported independent candidate.
With Dhanraj Nathwani’s name being announced, the SP’s list of Rajya Sabha candidates includes a candidate with a business background alongside senior leader Ram Gopal Yadav. Both candidates are now set to proceed with the nomination process, while the party’s final announcement on its third candidate remains awaited.
