An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was found hanging inside a police station in Samastipur, triggering an investigation by the police. The deceased was posted with the Dial-112 service and had been transferred only a few days earlier.
According to police, the ASI's body was found hanging in a room inside the police station while he was on duty. He was immediately brought down, but had already died. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and investigators are collecting necessary evidence from the scene.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) said that, according to preliminary information, the ASI had been suffering from depression. However, the SP said this is only a preliminary assessment and that the actual cause of death will be determined after the investigation and the post-mortem report.
Police said the ASI had recently been transferred. Investigators are examining his recent work, personal circumstances and other aspects related to the case. Officials said all possible angles are being investigated.
A forensic team inspected the scene and collected necessary evidence. Police are also questioning the deceased's family members and colleagues to establish the circumstances preceding the incident. Officials said no conclusion will be reached until the investigation is completed.
Following the incident, the police department is in mourning. Officials said the case will be investigated impartially and that all facts will be brought to light.
Police also stated that where an official investigation into the cause of death is ongoing, the final determination can only be made on the basis of the post-mortem report, forensic examination and other evidence. At present, the reference to depression is based on the police's preliminary information.
The Samastipur Police are continuing the investigation. The circumstances surrounding the ASI's death will become clear only after the post-mortem report and the completion of the investigation.
