Sarpanch Shot Dead in Samastipur Village Following Dispute

In a sensational incident in Matior village, under the Mohiuddinagar police station area of Samastipur district, Sunil Kumar Rai, the Sarpanch of Bishunpur Beri Panchayat, was shot dead late Tuesday night. The incident occurred in Ward No. 9 of the village, where a local youth, Vipin Rai, shot the Sarpanch. During the ensuing confrontation, the assailant was also injured and has been referred to a higher center for treatment.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the local police station reached the spot and took the body into their possession, sending it to the Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. Currently, there is an atmosphere of mourning and tension throughout the village, and the family members are in a state of grief.

Dispute over Earthwork Turns Fatal

Congress Kumar Rai, the nephew of the deceased Sarpanch, narrated the background of the incident. He stated that earth-filling work was underway in the village field on Tuesday evening. During this time, an argument broke out between Sarpanch Sunil Rai and the accused, Vipin Rai, over some matter. The dispute escalated when the accused asked the Sarpanch's driver, Sanjeevan Rai, to drive his vehicle, and upon the driver's refusal, tensions arose between the two parties. It was out of this animosity that a shot was fired around 1:45 late at night, resulting in the Sarpanch's immediate death.

A mountain of sorrow has fallen on the Sarpanch's family. It is reported that the deceased has four young children. After the incident, there was chaos in the village, and an atmosphere of panic spread throughout the area.

Police Engaged in Forensic Investigation and Strict Monitoring

Patori SDPO BK Medhavi, who arrived at the scene, stated that a pistol, three empty cartridges, and three live cartridges have been recovered from the site. He said that the firing took place during the argument between the two parties. The injured accused, Vipin Rai, has been sent to Sadar Hospital Samastipur for better treatment after receiving first aid.

The police have initiated an investigation by calling a forensic team and dog squad to the spot. Simultaneously, the background of the accused and other aspects related to the incident are also being thoroughly investigated. Currently, security has been increased in the village, and the situation is being monitored.
