Domestic equity markets opened higher on Wednesday, August 26, with both benchmark indices trading in the green at the start of the third session of the trading week. The BSE Sensex opened 236.01 points, or 0.30%, higher at 77,892.10, while the Nifty 50 began trading at 24,341.95, up 7.40 points, or 0.03%.
Buying was reflected across several major stocks in early trade. Eternal, UltraTech Cement, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Tech Mahindra and Adani Ports opened higher. Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, Infosys and Mahindra & Mahindra were among the major stocks that opened lower.
The BSE Sensex opened at 77,892.10, gaining 236.01 points, or 0.30%. The Nifty 50 started at 24,341.95, up 7.40 points, or 0.03%. Several constituents of the major indices recorded gains in early trading.
The domestic equity market had also recovered during Tuesday’s session and ended the previous trading session higher amid continued volatility.

Of the 30 Sensex constituents, 22 stocks opened in the green, while eight opened lower. Eternal recorded the best opening among the Sensex stocks, rising about 1.89%. UltraTech Cement gained 1.07%, while ICICI Bank and Bajaj Finserv each advanced 1.05%.
Tech Mahindra opened 0.99% higher, Adani Ports gained 0.98% and Asian Paints rose 0.95%. SBI and IndiGo each opened 0.91% higher.
Several banking and IT stocks also opened higher. Bajaj Finance gained 0.63%, while TCS and HCL Tech each rose 0.58%. Titan advanced 0.51%, Maruti Suzuki gained 0.42%, ITC rose 0.42% and Axis Bank increased 0.42%.
Hindustan Unilever opened 0.35% higher, NTPC gained 0.25%, Power Grid rose 0.17% and HDFC Bank advanced 0.08%. Kotak Mahindra Bank recorded a marginal gain of 0.07%.
Tata Steel was the weakest Sensex stock at the opening, declining about 0.94%. Bharti Airtel fell 0.53% and Infosys declined 0.45%.
Mahindra & Mahindra fell 0.31%, Sun Pharma declined 0.28% and Reliance Industries slipped 0.18%. L&T opened 0.15% lower, while BEL declined 0.01%.
